About Glycemic Index Foundation

The Glycemic Index Foundation (GIF) is a not-for-profit health promotion charity supported by The University of Sydney and Diabetes NSW & ACT. GIF is committed to providing the community with information and tools to help improve their health through scientifically-backed low GI healthy eating principles.

Vision: The Glycemic Index Foundation is the independent authority on the nutrition and health benefits of Glycemic Index.

Mission : To help people lead a healthier life through the adoption of evidence-based low GI eating principles for better health.

Our key aims are:

1

To promote community awareness and understanding of the Glycemic Index and the benefits of lowering the average GI of their diet to help facilitate the management of diabetes, prevent weight gain and other chronic lifestyle related diseases.

2

To promote public awareness, recognition and understanding of the GI Symbol. A trusted tool for quickly and reliably making healthier informed food choices. It is our guarantee to consumers that the GI value stated near the nutrition information label is accurate (companies need to adhere to our GI testing policy) and that the food meets strict nutritional criteria that are consistent with International dietary guidelines.

3

To work with food and agribusiness with the aim of developing and innovating healthier carbohydrate foods with a lower GI across the major food and beverage categories.

4

To invest in scientific research to better understand the Glycemic Index and associated health benefits of low GI eating.
